Weekend Mowing Buying Guide

Here’s how to think through each part of the mowing routine before you buy.

Choosing a Lawn Mower

Battery self-propelled mowers (like Honda’s HRN and HRX lines) are the easiest on your body for mid-size yards and skip the gas and cords entirely. Compact push mowers work well for small lawns and tight side yards. Push reel mowers are the quietest and lowest-maintenance option if your lawn is small and mostly flat. Robot mowers are a bigger upfront investment but handle mowing on their own once mapped to your yard.

Choosing a String Trimmer & Edger

A 2-in-1 trimmer/edger combo covers both trimming around obstacles and cutting a clean edge along walkways and beds with one tool. If you already own batteries from a cordless mower or drill, check whether a trimmer in the same battery platform saves you from buying another charger.

Choosing a Leaf Blower

A lightweight cordless blower with two batteries included is plenty for weekly cleanup of clippings, leaves, and driveways. Larger properties or heavy leaf season may call for a higher-CFM model.

Choosing Mower Maintenance Kits & Parts

Match tune-up kits and blades to your mower’s specific engine (Honda, Kohler, Kawasaki, and similar) rather than buying a generic kit, since air filters, spark plugs, and blade mounts vary by model. A seasonal oil change and blade sharpening go a long way toward keeping any mower cutting cleanly.
